7 - APC'S NO SMOKING CAMPAIGN

Yesterday was October 21 ,2015 and me and my classmates attended the Anti-Smoking seminar held at our school's Multipurpose Hall 2. First of all, being a student of Asia Pacific College for about 4 months I can say APC has a very nice facility and service in terms of education but there is only one thing that bothers me and this is to see a lot of APC students smoke. I feel sad when I see someone, somehow same at my age, that smoke because they know already what are the bad effects of smoking yet they continue their bad habit. Teenagers nowadays see smoking as a cool thing which is one of the reasons why the number of teenagers who has a habit of smoking keeps increasing, well I myself is not a smoker that is why it is very easy for me to say NO TO CIGARETTES and of course NO TO SMOKING and since our school have this anti smoking campaign, I am very happy that a No Smoking Campaign Seminar was held yesterday.

Mr. Emer Rojas was one of the speakers in the seminar, he is part of the New Vois Association of the Philippines Inc. and is a cancer survivor. He shared us the effects of smoking and why smoking shouldn't be a habit. Mr. Rojas being a cancer patient back then,  he shared the things that he can no longer do for the rest of his life and one of it is to swim it is because he no longer breathes through his nose but he breathes through the hole somewhere on the lower part of his neck. He also mentioned that since he no longer breathes through his nose, he's sense of smell and taste were no longer functioning. During his talk all of us were really listening for we see that he can't speak without his electrolarynx, an electric medical device used by Laryngectomy Patients or Throat Cancer patients to produce clearer speech. All through out his very informative talk I think many of my classmates were reminded of why smoking is a bad thing to do for.

Engineer Emer Rojas giving his talk about the hazardous effects of smoking

In the talk of Mr. Rojas he mentioned how many chemical compounds does cigarettes contain and for all you know cigarettes contains over 7,000 chemical compounds. By that information they have raised up awareness about it through this No Smoking Campaign, and with the help of raising the awareness, Sin Tax Law RA 10351 which is an act restructuring the excise tax on alcohol and tobacco products was implemented at the year 2012. As the awareness continues to spread the next goal of the campaign is to make Graphic Health Warnings printed along the pack of cigarettes.
Example of Cigarette Packs of other countries that has Graphic Heal Warnings.

After the talk and have been reminded of preventing cancer by removing smoking as a habit of many all throughout the talk, we were given flyers. Even though I'm not a smoker I really do learn a lot in this talk we attended, and by this it helped me to be more alert and careful for I myself is still prone to lung cancer due to what we call second hand smoke, and that through the help of all the information I got from the talk I can help raise awareness to other people especially to those people who smokes.

6 - Turn Left Turn Right

Destiny is what some of us believed in, wherein it is something or someone that is meant to happen or to be a part in our life. Some say that destiny will play with your life which can make you feel sad, confused, broken, angry, scared, hopeless, happy , comfortable, etc. The movie entitled Turn Left Turn Right shows how destiny played the lives of two people who have been crossing in each others way without knowing or noticing it.

TURN LEFT TURN RIGHT
The movie Turn Left Turn Right was based on the best selling illustrated storybooks in Asia. This movie is about two people, an aspiring violinist and a professional translator, who was played by destiny. John Liu an aspiring violinist was flocked by women because of his handsome face but he wasn't the kind of guy that wants many crazy women following him for he wants to meet someone special who appreciates his violin performances. There is this woman named Eve Choi, she has the passion in translating poems but was stuck in translating cheesy novels and cheap thrillers which gives her a creepy feeling. John Liu and Eve Choi were living in different units of the same apartment building and separated by a thin wall, they have been crossing their ways without noticing each other.

One day, while walking at the park, around the circular fountain, John Liu and Eve Choi finally bump into each other thanks to the wind that blew Choi's papers into the water. From that instance on, they have spend a beautiful afternoon
together and they have realized that they have met before and that they we're schoolmates back then but then the rain cuts the moment. Before they go part ways they exchanged phone numbers and as they got into their homes and have taken the shower, fate plays a cruel on them again, the rain has soaked through their scrap of paper and the phone numbers are hopelessly smudged.

From that day on, as the weather got bad also is their fate. The two of them was sent to the hospital but then after several days and after being discharge in the hospital they didn't gave up hoping that they will see each other again. Days have passed and both of them got their dream jobs. They have felt that they wont be able to see one another once again before leaving Taipei and so with one last try along with their hopes high they were able to talk to each other through phone but an earthquake occurred which had created a big hole in the thin wall that separates their unit which had given them the chance to see each other again.

At first I thought this was a boring and corny movie but it proved me wrong, I found this movie very interesting to watch over and over again.

5 - ANG TATAY MONG KALBO

Today is October 9, 2015 and this day is about to end in less than 5 hours that is why before the day ends, I would like to share you something about the teatro play, Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo. Earlier, me and my classmates watched a play entitled Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo, this play was prepared by our fellow APCians and was held at the multipurpose hall 1 of the school. When the play started, Mr. and Mrs. Santos, the first two characters got our attention which is a good thing because for me it is important to get the attention of your audience. During the play, we had this confusions and all, but we remembered that the play doesn't have a story line and that it was absurd.

A few minutes after the realization, we have kept our focus on the play and we were very much entertained and we really laughed a lot because the actors and actresses were great!
All in all I find the play very interesting and entertaining. I would like to watch another play like this for this kind of play will somehow give you good vibes which can relax you from all the school stuff or stress.

4 - Time Value

We say that time never stops, because it keeps on running, it keeps going, and no one can stop it.  We annually celebrate Christmas, New Year, Valentines, Independence, Halloween, however, we celebrate birthdays monthly, and doing our responsibilities, obligations and activities daily. Each and every one of us in this world has their own role with their very own purpose, and each of us has something to do in life that has something to do with enjoyment or important things.

We live in a busy world, wherein many of us see time as a precious thing than money. Time as we know wont stop for it keeps going even if your clock stops ticking. But what makes time precious than money? Well, one thing is for sure, time cannot be retrieved.

According to Tim Maurer, a contributor of Forbes, we are unable to make more time because no matter how hard we strive and do things efficiently, once a second, minute, or an hour has passed, it is beyond retrieval. I do agree with Mr. Maurer, because I also believe that nobody can turn back what has been done and nobody can turn back time.

(Source of image: http://designsold.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Quotes-about-time.jpg)
Time is precious indeed that is why never waste a second of your life for you've only got 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 4 weeks in a month, 12 months in a year, and you've got every year to do everything, that is why make it count and memorable, for life goes on as time keeps on counting endlessly .

3 - Heneral Luna

( I got this picture from the facebook page of Heneral Luna )
Last August 14, 2015 a forum about Bayani Ba To? Heroism for Millennials was held at Asia Pacific College and in that forum the Director of the movie Heneral Luna, Director Jerrold Tarog, was present. Mr. Tarog gave us a peek on some of the scenes in the movie and he of course invited us to watch the movie for the reason of knowing and to be aware of what is needed by our country. Since I have shared you that Mr. Tarog gave us a peek on some scenes in the movie, I actually find it a smart way on convincing the people to watch the movie and by that we really find it very interesting plus we have heard the news that there will be discounts for students and so last September 09, 2015 me and my classmates watched the movie.

( I got this picture from the facebook page of Heneral Luna
The movie was about General Antonio Luna who tried to lead and unite his countrymen in saving our country against the Americans, but turned out to be him as the target. In the movie, Heneral Luna said that we Filipinos can die for our family but we cannot die for our country, which he thinks is another illness that all of us have and should be cured. Another point of the movie is to show and awaken us about the crab mentality which is still happening up until now. Crab mentality was shown in the part when the General of Pampanga who is General Mascardo, Felipe Buencamino the Secretary of Development, and Pedro Paterno said something to President Emilio Aguinaldo in against Luna, so that General Antonio Luna would be out of his position.

Upon seeing the movie, Heneral Luna has a question yet a challenge for all of us, and this is to choose whether your country or yourself  " Bayan O Sarili " which means, why not do our part in fighting and contributing something good for our own country if everybody can benefit from it including you and your family? On the other hand I am very thankful that I was able to watch the movie, and by that I really do say that it was WORTH the pay and the wait because, the movie had taught me in asking why are we brave enough to do such sacrifice for our own family but we're afraid to make sacrifices for our own country.

2 - Laser Tag

Each and everyone has their own ways on being happy and to make someone happy, we also have their own choices on whom to be with or not. As an individual I have my own interests and hobbies and some of it might be the same with other persons and when we get to know that other person(s) very well we be friend them but in my world I don't see them as "others" for I consider my friends as my brother or sister. To get with it, I see my siblings as my best friends, I feel comfortable and free whenever we hang out and even if we were only in our house we still do things together for fun, but what I like most in being with my brothers is that we help each other in all of the school requirements. Going back with our fun activities, me and my brothers mostly enjoys going to the mall and buy stuff or sometimes just to eat out, we also spend time going to arcades and then watch movies, but one of our bonding activity is to go to Centris Station which is located at Quezon Ave., Quezon City, to play laser tag.

We have played laser tag trice maybe and of course would want to go back and play again. We enjoyed playing there for it is much more exclusive and for the reason that it has a bigger arena. One time we played laser tag with our cousins and when we got there, there was a group of adults and so we were thinking that we will be playing with the other group. Inside the arena, you will feel as if you're a awesome with sharp shooting skills, and so when the game started and every one was in position, the room was dark and so the only way to know who's your enemy is through the vest that comes with their team color. In order to win the game your team must earn a lot of points by shooting the opponent on their vest, since our team was fast and sharp we won against the other group of course, but it'll be more fun if our enemy would be of our age and that there will be three teams.
